Hagaribommanahalli, Aug. 7: Javelin Throw Day was celebrated at Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra – Hagaribommanahalli.

 • Kumari Hitaishi, explaining the significance of this day, said, “Every year on August 7, ‘National Javelin Day’ is celebrated in India. This day holds a very important place in the history of Indian sports. At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw category on August 7 with a throw of 87.58 meters. This was India’s first Olympic gold medal in athletics. To commemorate this historic day, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) declared it ‘Javelin Day’.
